If your child has an identified, documented health problem that interferes with his/her ability to learn, they may be eligible for accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
The school would need to look at the extent, duration, and impact of the disability on your child’s learning performance. A disability may be obvious such as a mild case of cerebral palsy or a hidden disability such as diabetes, epilepsy, or attention deficit disorder.
A 504 plan is through regular education and does not apply if your child is currently receiving services through special education, If you are interested in more information or would like to talk to someone, please contact your child’s school principal and ask for the building 504 coordinator.
